MoMA

Proposed Custom Textile for the Museum of Modern Art

MoMA-moldThis textile was intended to be massed-produced material to create soft goods like coverings for housewares and personal accessories.

The hybrid material is composed of vinyl and polyurethane foam to create a high-performance, sewable material. Once the vector pattern and 3D rendering is finalized, a temporary mold was created from a CNC machine. The material is then molded to take on the tactile character in its final form.

Inspired by the Bauhaus movement (specifically Anni Albers’ work), the pictorial pattern is oriented in a rotating zigzag pattern where one is able to read the logo pattern in different directions – zigzag, vertical, block and horizontal.
